Enjoy the Journey
For those who know me, I may have said at one point or another, “Enjoy the journey.”
And that is a phrase that is very dear to me and deeply connected to my beliefs and the way I choose to live my life.
At many moments in my life, I have realized that even during the bad times, there was always something that made me look at the positive in the situation.
Whenever I was facing anxiety, fear, or simply going through a difficult moment, I would ask myself one question:
“What is this teaching me?”
And I think that question has made a real difference in how I approach life.
More recently, I have been exposed to a lot of podcasts and books that reinforce something I have come to believe over the years: when you learn to enjoy the process, when you look at every moment as an opportunity to learn something, and when you take the time to appreciate what you have, you start feeling better.
And sometimes, it really is as simple as that.
For me, gratitude has become a habit.
Every morning when I wake up, the first thing I do is be grateful and thankful. And this is something I have consciously trained myself to do.
My faith is my North Star.
I was blessed to be brought up in a Catholic school, and those traditions, rituals, and beliefs have always been part of my life.
Over time, I have also mixed those beliefs with spirituality, and together, they have shaped the way I see the world.
Every day, I count my blessings. I try to be grateful for everything I have, and that puts me in a very positive and happy mindset.
And I have learned that this does not mean life is always easy or that difficult moments do not exist.
It simply means that I have trained myself to look for the positive, even when things are not going the way I would like them to.
What is the lesson here? What is the positive that I need to learn or see in this moment?
Those are questions I constantly ask myself, no matter what I am going through.
But this is not something that happened overnight.
It is something I have taught myself.
I have made it a habit.
I remember many, many, many years ago, reading somewhere that Oprah had said that at the end of every day, she would think about five things that happened that day for which she was thankful.
And for some reason, that stayed with me.
I started making it a habit myself.
I started journaling. I started consciously thinking about the things I was grateful for.
And I would do this wherever I was.
It did not matter if I was in the car, on my way to work, at dinner, or just before going to bed.
I would take a moment to think about what I had to be thankful for.
And over time, that practice became part of who I am.
It became something I naturally do, without even having to think about it.
And I genuinely believe it has made me a happier person.
So, when I say “Enjoy the journey,” what I really mean is to enjoy the process of life.
To live with gratitude.
To have faith.
To look for the teaching moments, even in the most difficult situations.
And to remind yourself that there is almost always something positive to learn, something to appreciate, or something that can help you grow.
For me, it is about choosing where I place my attention.
Because while I cannot always control what happens around me, I can work on how I choose to look at it.
And that is something I continue to practice every single day.
So, I just wanted to share this thought with you.
Because I will be sharing more of these reflections, thoughts, and moments along the way.
And my hope is that something I share might resonate with you, make you reflect, or perhaps help you in some small way.
Enjoy the journey.
